Aquamarine Surveys provides independent marine surveying services for sailing yachts, motorboats and other small craft across the south and east coasts of the UK, from Suffolk to Devon. Each survey is carried out to the standards of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA) to help buyers, owners, and insurers make informed decisions.
Pre purchase
Pre-purchase surveys on FRP and wooden vessels up to 40ft (12.2m) in length from Devon to Suffolk. The pre-purchase survey is the most thorough assessment of a boat's condition and results in a survey report listing recommendations for the safety or improvement of the vessel. These surveys are usually for a prospective buyer, and the surveyor works for that person alone. Survey reports will be delivered within five days of a survey - often sooner.
Insurance
Insurance and damage surveys on wood and FRP vessels up to 40ft (12.2m) long, from Devon to Suffolk. Insurance surveys are narrower in scope than pre-purchase, and they are carried out at regular intervals at the behest of the insurer of a vessel. Insurance surveys are limited to those items that affect the safe operation of a vessel, but not, for instance, its comfort or performance.

Hull and structure
Hull and structure surveys on all vessels up to 80ft from Devon to Suffolk. As the name implies, this encompasses just the hull and superstructure (wheelhouse, cabin trunk, cockpit and so on). Vessels up to 80ft (24m) built in wood, FRP, metal (steel or aluminium) and ferro-cement. These are often similar to 'purchase consultation' surveys (see below), in the sense that they are used to determine the suitability of an old vessel for rebuild, where the interior systems will all be replaced.

You won't find this on many surveyors' sites, but after 20 years at the centre of the classic yacht world, I have an unrivalled network if you are looking for an unusual yacht. I also offer a 'first look', which is like a light survey, with attention to the boat's suitability to a new owner, and suggestions for a suitable restoration yard or team.
